EARNED RUNS™...
...Is a company that enables runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts, alone or in small groups, to train and compete in affordable personal events by providing FREE PROFESSIONAL COMPETITION BIBS and online RESOURCES. Earned Runs promotes a variety of custom challenges that improve overall physical fitness.

Earned Runs bibs can be used to race, and to self-motivate, track progress toward fitness goals, and record achievements.

We encourage competitors to train wisely and safely, and to be charitable and earth-friendly. See the MISSION STATEMENT below or click on FAQ link for more detailed information.
"We run, not because we think it is doing us good, but because we enjoy it and cannot help ourselves…The more restricted our society and work become, the more necessary it will be to find some outlet for this craving for freedom. No one can say, ‘You must not run faster than this, or jump higher than that.’
The human spirit is indomitable."

Sir Roger Bannister (1929-  )

English runner, physician, and academic
Ran first sub-4 minute mile, 1954

EARNED RUNS LOGO: The words mean you must work for what you hope to get from this effort. Font is strong and straight like your core must be. The first letter of each word, 'E' and 'R', are tall capital letters, and represent competition. Tall because competition is your purpose. The remaining letters represent training; shorter but still capitals, important to achieving your goals. The arrow signifies your forward direction, to the right, a classic symbol of distance running.

FAQ

Creation story

Earned Runs was born of necessity. Lost opportunities to participate in races, not to mention registration fees, because of injury, poor preparation, or conflicts with work and family, and lack of a buddy, were demoralizing. Running ceased to be fun. That's the short story.
Read on if you want details....

I am a long time runner, having started in 1975 and completed my first 10K road and trail race in 1978.  At the time I was just entering medical school and there was little opportunity or money for competition. I tried, but career, family, having no one to run with at the unpredictable times I could get out, and tendinitis often prevented me from showing up for a race, even if I had registered. In those years I ran most days of the year but managed to compete in only one 5K race annually. Much later I thought about racing again for longer distances. But by this time I had become timid.

My family urged me on. I attempted a half marathon that was stopped for dangerous weather and finished, but no official time was given. I ran 2 other ‘halfs’ and finished 2nd in my age group in one. Was I pumped!   My daughter and I committed to running 2 half marathons  within 6 months to get a 3rd medal.   I was so excited to finally have a person with which to share this goal, that I paid for a session with an Olympic trainer, Tim Broe. It was incredibly inspiring and taught me that strength and balance work was needed to make me a contender, not just daily running.

Unfortunately,  enthusiastic over-training led to injury and no running for 5 months, which meant I could not run the race series with my daughter.  I traveled to and cheered for my girl at the first ‘half’ we had planned to run together. On the day in 2014 that she ran the second ‘half’, I ran my own at the same time, 500 miles away with an “Earned Runs” bib, NUMBER 1.  Four days later, wearing the same bib, I ran a commemorative 10K, on the day my mother would have been 92 years old (at 4:30am before work). EARNED RUNS WAS BORN. Its mission is to enable all runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts  to train to compete, to give their sport activity direction, alone or with others. It's 'green'. It’s more fun than random exercise…
...and IT”S FREE!

Mission Statement

RUN & MOVE HAPPY!!
Earned Runs believes that the most effective way for runners, walkers, and fitness enthusiasts to persevere in sport, and experience the physical and mental health benefits of regular moderate-to-vigorous exercise over a lifetime, is to commit to regular competition with training. Training involves strength conditioning and workouts to improve flexibility, mobility, balance, and speed. Competition may take the form of  personal or organized challenges meant to actualize self-driven or public goals. The rewards of frequent competition include confidence and a sense of accomplishment that enriches life in sport and at home and work.

Earned Runs seeks to enable affordable personal athletic events or challenges by giving free professional competition bibs on request, and support safe training practices with online information at no cost. It wishes to promote social engagement, environmentally responsible running through minimal use of community and individual resources, and generosity of spirit through charitable giving. Earned Runs works to complement the efforts of organized running and other sport event networks and participation in organized events.
“Age is no barrier. It’s a limitation you place on your mind.”  Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Olympic gold medalist
