PodiumRunner.com is an amazing 'new' resource that self-identifies for runners. A triathlete.com release indicates it's “the new name and attitude of Competitor Running,” headed by Editor in Chief Jonathan Beverly. It's new but old because of it's historical link to Competitor magazine, which stopped publication in 2017, and a 30 year long foundation of service to runners.
The goal of PR, Beverly indicates on the welcome message, “is to empower you with the skills, knowledge, and fitness to find your podium- whether it’s tackling a new distance, setting a personal record, going head-to head with your local rival, or winning the whole dang thing.” However, you don’t need to be a runner to benefit from the training and coaching tips and other advice and insights that fill the site. it’s a wonderful resource for anyone interesting in transforming into the athlete they’ve dream of becoming. I love PR's website organization, which may change over time, but hopefully covers the same general areas. The drop-down menu includes sections on basic topics with items authored by quality contributors. Below is a summary that doesn’t do justice to the variety of information that’s available. FRONT PAGE NEWS TRAINING: Injury prevention; Recovery RACING: Boston Marathon, New York Marathon, Chicago Marathon GEAR NUTRITION: Recipes COLUMNS: Ritz on Running (an elite runner interviews other elites), Ask Pete (coach’s expert advice); The Rundown, (shoe reviews); Inside lane (news on track and cross-country elites). I have not yet been able to explore the entire extent of what’s offered by PR on all sections, there’s just too much, but delved into “Training”. There are 38 pages of items, many written or presented by previous Competitor Running contributors or editors. A search of the term “hip mobility” resulted in 11 pages of articles on the topic by authors with recognizable names who have inspired Earned Runs posts or laid the foundation of training plans. PR promises to hold a wealth of information! I’ve signed up for the newsletter. Expect to see Earned Runs blog posts that highlight articles in the future. Last week's May 1, 2019 post featured an idea that comes from an “Ask Pete” item. A link to the website will be posted on the Earned Runs RESOURCES page as well. BRIDGE TO PHYSICAL SELF
Running, walking, and fitness activities enable us to experience our physical selves in a world mostly accessed through use of fingers on a mobile device. AuthorEARNED RUNS is edited and authored by me, runner and founder. In 1978 I began participating in 10K road races before 5Ks were common. I've been a dietitian, practiced and taught clinical pathology, and been involved with research that utilized pathology. I am fascinated with understanding the origins of disease as well as health and longevity. Archives
